Google Pixel eSIM Not Working? Troubleshooting Guide

If you've installed your eSIM on a Google Pixel device but cannot connect to the network, don't worry. In most cases, the issue can be resolved with a few simple checks.

This guide covers the most common eSIM issues on Google Pixel devices, including:

  • eSIM installed but showing "No Service"
  • eSIM not connecting to a mobile network
  • eSIM activation issues
  • Missing network settings
  • Data not working while travelling

The steps below apply to:

  • Google Pixel 7
  • Google Pixel 7 Pro
  • Google Pixel 7a
  • Google Pixel 8
  • Google Pixel 8 Pro
  • Google Pixel 8a
  • Google Pixel 9 Series

Before You Start

Please make sure:

  • Your eSIM is switched on
  • Airplane Mode is turned off
  • Data Roaming is enabled
  • Your device has been restarted after installation
  • You are in a location with mobile network coverage

Problem 1: eSIM Installed but Showing "No Service"

If your eSIM appears installed but shows "No Service" or cannot connect to a network, the issue is often related to APN settings.

Configure the APN Manually

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Network & Internet
  3. Tap SIMs
  4. Select your eSIM
  5. Scroll down and tap Access Point Names (APN)
  6. Tap + or New APN
  7. Enter the following:
    • Name: globaldata
    • APN: globaldata
  8. Leave all other fields blank
  9. If Username or Password fields contain information, remove them
  10. Save the APN
  11. Select the newly created APN
  12. Restart your device

After restarting, allow up to 15 minutes for the device to connect to the network.

Problem 2: eSIM Will Not Install

If scanning the QR code does not install the eSIM:

Step 1: Restart Your Device

Restart your Pixel and try again.

Step 2: Use Manual Activation

Instead of scanning the QR code:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Network & Internet
  3. Tap SIMs
  4. Tap Add eSIM
  5. Choose Enter activation code manually
  6. Enter the activation code provided with your eSIM

Step 3: Check Your Internet Connection

During installation:

  • Use a stable Wi-Fi connection where possible
  • If Wi-Fi fails, try mobile data
  • Avoid unstable public networks

Step 4: Disable VPN Services

VPN applications can interfere with eSIM activation. Before installing:

  1. Turn off any VPN connection
  2. Close VPN applications
  3. Retry the installation

Problem 3: Mobile Data Is Not Working

If the eSIM is connected but websites and apps cannot load:

Check Data Roaming

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Network & Internet
  3. Select the eSIM
  4. Ensure Roaming is switched on

Many travel eSIMs require roaming to be enabled to access partner networks overseas.

Problem 4: Cannot Find a Network

Sometimes the device does not automatically connect to the best available network.

Manually Select a Network

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Network & Internet
  3. Select your eSIM
  4. Tap Network Operators
  5. Disable Automatically Select Network
  6. Wait for available networks to appear
  7. Try connecting to another available network

In some countries, switching between available carriers can resolve connectivity issues.

Problem 5: Mobile Network Options Are Missing

Some Pixel users may notice that network settings or mobile network controls do not appear after installing an eSIM.

If this occurs:

  1. Restart the device
  2. Update Android to the latest version
  3. Reset mobile network settings:
    • Settings → System → Reset Options → Reset Mobile Network Settings
  4. Restart the device again
